WPMT-TV FOX43, the TEGNA-owned FOX affiliate in Harrisburg/York, PA, is seeking a full-time Digital Content Producer to join our team! The ideal candidate has a passion for news and writing, and a desire to grow as a journalist. In this hybrid role, you will be part assignment editor and part digital content producer blended into one position, so the ideal candidate would have a passion for breaking news and creating content.

Duties include but are not limited to: Writing news stories, gathering information, delivering content on digital platforms, answering phones, listening to police scanners, and live streaming. The position is responsible for dispatching crews, assisting crews with contacts and research, and publishing original content to the website.

Must be a strong writer and copy editor with excellent editorial judgment, time management, and multi-tasking skills, with the ability to prioritize and re-prioritize quickly.

A successful candidate will also help enterprise news through beat calls, social media, and cultivated sources.

We are looking for a proactive, outgoing, and creative candidate with the journalism experience and technical skills required for this job.

Understanding of social media audience engagement and search engine optimization techniques is also preferred.

Experience with writing using AP style is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Write and publish articles for FOX43 digital platforms.
  • Assist with all FOX43 digital, mobile, social, and streaming products, with an emphasis on ensuring quality in content and robust SEO strategy.
  • Use social media listening and digital analytics tools to keep up with the daily news cycle.
  • Edit content for accuracy and ethical journalism in accordance with FOX43 and AP style guidance.
  • Work alongside multi-skilled journalists, reporters, photojournalists, and other content creators on the production of their content for digital audiences.
  • Report news accurately and update as it unfolds, with strong breaking news skills.
  • Efficiently scour the internet for viral trends and impactful story ideas.
  • Reach out to organizations, individuals, and other sources to gain and confirm information.
  • Perform other tasks as required by supervisor or senior digital producers.
  • Strong communication skills, conflict management, and customer service skills
  • Planning ahead for social, digital, and on-air coverage of events
  • Ability to manage content on a variety of platforms including desktop, mobile sites, apps, and social media

Requirements

  • Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop working relationships with local newsmakers and their staff.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with content management systems (CMS) preferred
  • Experience creating and managing content on social media platforms preferred
  • Knowledge of AP style, grammar, and copy-editing basics
  • Understanding of basic journalism legal principles and online metrics
