Job Description 

Position Summary

The Communication Specialist position at Pep Boys will serve as an integral part of our team reporting to the AVP of Marketing.  This role will partner with internal and external partners to support the development of key messaging, creation of collateral and provide project support to meet the overarching goals of the corporate communications team.  Major focus will include writing, content development, project management and overall department support.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop content for internal and external audiences as assigned, including articles, highlights and multimedia galleries.
  • Provide support as needed for a variety of events including employee appreciation meetings, Town Halls, and industry related opportunities. May require in-person attendance and set-up/breakdown activity.
  • Oversee and manage general communication email box.
  • Contribute and support to Editorial Calendars and execute assigned writing tasks.
  • Responsible for creating and distributing News Clipping Executive Summary.
  • Serve as lead team user for email list management and distribution.
  • Serve as key user of internal intranet, helping drive strategy and provide implementation to increase employee engagement, provide consistent and relevant content updates and ensure overall organizational branding.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners around calendars, projects and other deliverables as assigned.
  • Other administrative duties as assigned including expense and invoice management, budget reporting, team meeting agenda development, and overarching department support.
  •  Assist in driving the communications function's continuous improvement efforts and anticipate opportunities or roadblocks, bring solutions, innovate new ideas; be accountable for communication risks/issues.
  • Partner with a team of functional communicators, agencies and designers, writers, etc. that complement the primary communications team's in-house work.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communication, Journalism, Marketing or related field.
  • Four to six years direct experience in a marketing, public relations or communications role.
  • Experience working in or with a PR agency

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong, professional written, verbal communication skills and event planning skills.
  • Fluent in Microsoft office software.
  • Team player with the ability to connect with cross functional teams and different audiences.
  • High level of organization, professionalism, and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable operating in a high-performing, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work special hours and be on call outside of business hours.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • This position is an in-person role and will be based in our Bala Cynwyd office.
  • Occasional travel to the field and events may be required throughout the year (less than 30%).
  • Repetitive movement of hands and fingers, typing or writing.
  • Regular standing and walking.
  • Reach with hands and arms.
  • Talk and hear.
  • Ability to work under tight time constraints, handle sensitive date and multi-task toward deadlines
  • High organized and able to prioritize and manage time efficiently with the ability to handle stress in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
